Case study: Recruitment analytics in Sport
Background
A professional sports team is only as good as its players, and recruiting the right players can make all the difference between winning and losing. For years, scouts and coaches have relied on their instincts and experience to evaluate potential recruits. However, in recent years, data analysis has emerged as a powerful tool for sports teams looking to make informed decisions about who to bring onto their team.
A famous women’s cricket team, is struggling to recruit the right players. Despite the team’s best efforts, they have been unable to attract top athletes which fit the team and they have not been performing as well as they would like. The team is looking for ways to improve their recruitment process and attract better players.
Objective
You are part of a team of data analysts who have been hired by the team to help them improve their recruitment process. Your task is to analyze a one day international cricket dataset and provide a list of top 5 players the team may want to recruit. You will have to think about the teams requirements, how you rank players, what KPIs you will use and how you will report back to the team. They have asked you to do this by creating an R-markdown report.
What do you know already and what are the steps you may need to take to help the team?
